ABOUT

SAHRA's Emerging Professionals group was formed in 2017 to serve as a forum for young HR professionals and those new to the HR industry in the Sacramento region. The group is open to any SAHRA member who self-identifies as a young or emerging HR professional.

PAST EVENTS

As the SAHRA Emerging Professionals group prepared for the SAHRA Annual Conference, a virtual event was held to provide an overview of what the Emerging Professionals group is and why it exists, and the main event of the session included break-out discussions based on three specific topics. These three topics were: Emerging Professionals Committee Events and Activities, SAHRA Conference – Emerging Professionals event planning, and Making Networking Work. Each discussion topic was chosen to help the Emerging Professionals committee prepare for the annual conference, provide support for the emerging professional community, and help the committee prepare for 2022 by giving ideas for events that meet the needs of the community. We gained a lot of valuable input from each person who attended, and we have incorporated some of the feedback into our 2022 strategy discussions. Thank you to those who attended and participated in the discussions!

Months of “are we going back to the office or aren’t we” caused much uncertainty among HR professionals. The pandemic just kept stretching on and as a way to lighten up our members, SAHRA’s Emerging Professionals Group hosted a light and fun virtual meet up in August 2020. Attendees broke out into virtual rooms and talked about all the funny aspects of the pandemic, like Zoom meeting bloopers. We played games like “Grab the Closest Thing Next to You.” We had some interesting things like dinosaur figurines and Slinkys. Many laughs and much needed decompression was had among our Emerging Professionals members.

In the Spring of 2020, SAHRA and UC Davis Continuing Education hosted People 101: Getting Started with HR Analytics and Metrics. To kick start our event, the Emerging Professionals hosted a fun ice breaker game. Everyone was able to mix and minglebased on common interests. Due to the high demand of this amazing event, staff had to find more chairs to fill the group! After settling down from the ice breaker, attendees learned how to use data sources and use Excel as a data-management tool.

SAHRA held its first Emerging Professionals mixer at Kupros Craft House in Midtown Sacramento on February 8, 2018. The event shined a light on SAHRA's Emerging Professionals, a

newly developed group formed to serve as a forum for young HR professionals and those new to the HR industry in the Sacramento region. Nearly 50 attendees enjoyed bites and beverages, and participated in a team building activity, which included career related discussion items and a round of trivia. Groups were formed, each composed of HR professionals at different levels in their careers, in order to allow for advice sharing across generations. Fun was had, connections were made, and a thing or two was learned!

In November 2017, Preet Kuar, Vice President of Workforce Readiness along with Steve Haas, Human Resources Director at Disability Rights and Jenny Stanionis, Vice President of Miltenyi Biotec were invited by the President of Human Resources Management Association at Sacramento State University to be the guest speakers.

The HR students really enjoyed speaking with the professional  panel regarding different aspects of an HR career path.

SAHRA is committed to support emerging HR professionals as they enter their HR careers.

On August 22, 2017, SAHRA hosted HR Insights. The event provided a forum for emerging professionals to network with and learn from some of the region's leading HR practitioners. The second HR Insights event was held on May 10, 2018.
