SPEAKERS
Melissa Whitehead is a partner in Freeman Mathis & Gary’s Sacramento office. Ms. Whitehead has successfully litigated numerous cases in California's state and federal courts and various administrative agencies, in a wide variety of general liability and employment matters, including wrongful termination, wage and hour, FEHA claims, and EEOC claims. Additionally, she advises and counsels employers concerning their workplace policies, practices, and personnel decisions.
Ms. Whitehead has extensive experience litigating class actions. Her substantive areas of expertise include California's Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), Title VII, the American with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the California Labor Code.
Brooke Kozak advises employers in all areas of employment law at Shaw Law Group. She also conducts workplace investigations for public- and private-sector employers.
A former human resources professional focused on employee relations, policy development, and recruiting, Brooke brings practical business and management experience to her practice of employment law. She previously worked with association, non-profit, and insurance organizations.
Brooke is a certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and the Association of Workplace Investigators. She provides pro bono assistance to clients with legal problems associated with debt collection and bankruptcy for the Voluntary Legal Services Program of Northern California.
Lukas Clary is an associate at Weintraub Tobin in the firm’s Labor and Employment practice group. Lukas has experience representing clients in all aspects of employment litigation. He regularly handles claims involving allegations of workplace discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, unpaid overtime and wages, missed meal and rest periods, and class actions. He also regularly counsels clients on compliance and litigation avoidance strategies.
In addition to his employment law practice, Lukas has successfully litigated real estate and business disputes, copyright and trademark claims, and contractual matters, among others. He has successfully prosecuted and defended cases in both state and federal courts, before administrative agencies, and through alternative dispute resolution. He has won cases at trial and through summary judgment, and has negotiated several favorable settlements for his clients. Through these experiences, he is able to quickly identify and execute a resolution strategy consistent with his clients’ goals.
