This presentation will provide awareness and guidance to aid HR professionals in identifying and responding to situations that may give rise to age discrimination liability, and also how to secure valid releases of ADEA claims in severance/ separation agreements. 

 

Topics will include:

 

•          Age Discrimination theories – Disparate Treatment vs. Disparate Impact;

•          Retaliation;

•          Trends in age discrimination charges filed with the EEOC and FEHA;

•          Employer defenses to age discrimination claims; and

•          Securing valid waivers of ADEA claims in separation agreement, including in  context of a reduction in force.

Douglas L. Ropel, Attorney at Law

 

Douglas L. Ropel advises and represents employers in a broad range of labor and employment matters arising under both state and federal laws, concentrating his practice in the areas of: Discrimination and harassment, litigation and trials,  as well as whistleblowing and retaliation.

 

Before joining Littler, Douglas worked at a Sacramento regional litigation firm on its employment litigation team. He was involved in full-spectrum litigation services, including representing employers in pre-litigation administrative investigations, arbitrations, and civil lawsuits.
