Briefly describe your organization, role, and how long you have been involved

I am a Labor & Employment Partner at Stoel Rives, LLP. My practice involves advising employers regarding compliance with California law and defending employers in civil litigation.

How many years have you been in HR? What do you enjoy about the industry?

I have been working with employers and HR Advisors for the last 10 plus years. What I most enjoy about working with HR professionals is their commitment to resolving disputes in a way that enhances morale.

How long have you been involved with SAHRA?

I have been involved with SAHRA for approximately 1 year.

How has membership with SAHRA affected you and your career?

My involvement with SAHRA has allowed me greater exposure to HR Professionals in this region. It has also allowed me to focus on HR problems unique to this region.

What challenges do you believe will face the HR industry in the future?

The biggest challenge to the HR industry will be complying with the myriad of California's well intentioned but oftentimes confusing (and punitive) employment laws and regulations.

In your spare time, what do you do for fun?

Reading and enjoying time with my family.

What is one fun fact your colleagues may not know about you?

I have published several fiction stories.

Tell us about your employer and your role.

SAFE is a not for profit Credit Union.  In addition to banking services, we are passionate about supporting our community!  We promote volunteerism, supporting schools and nonprofits. SAFE is the leader in supporting our region’s businesses with employee financial wellness through SAFE@work.  My role as Affiliate Relationship Manager is to improve the health and vitality of this regions employees. I do this by finding no cost solutions designed to minimize financial distraction while improving your employees’ financial health.

What are some challenges you see in your role or in the HR profession today?

Today more employees are anxious about their financial lives. They are concerned about saving for retirement, financing college, debt, and tackling medical expenses. All that worry , or financial distraction, contributes to productivity losses, increased absences, healthcare claims and high turnover.

How has SAHRA helped you in your professional growth?

Through SAHRA,  I am able to interface with caring Human Resource professionals, who want the best for their employees.  I am constantly learning about the contributions, roles and challenges of those in HR.  This knowledge allows me to be creative and sensitive as we develop further no cost SAFE@work offerings.

What do you hope to get out of being on the SAHRA Board?

The opportunity to share resources that can improve the lives of our regions employees.

What is one fun fact your colleagues may not know about you?

I have a BA in Fine Art.
