This Week's Board Member Spotlight: Myra Makelim, VP of Career Management

Briefly describe your organization, role, and how long you have been involved. 
I am the Director of Human Resources, Diversity & Inclusion for Christian Brothers High School, a Lasallian Catholic, college preparatory high school. Here, I have faithfully served the faculty and staff in all facets of human resources and payroll since November of 2014.


How many years have you been in HR? What do you enjoy about the industry? 
I have over 20 years experience in Human Resources. The biggest draw to the industry for me is that it is service oriented. I am tremendously inspired by being able to help and serve individuals the way that I have been helped and supported by human resource professionals over the years.


How long have you been involved with SAHRA? 
Over 20 years, on and off.


How has membership with SAHRA affected you and your career? 
I started with SAHRA in college with the organization and it led to my first HR internship. Throughout my career I could always count on SAHRA to provide timely information and networking opportunities just when I needed it.


What challenges do you believe will face the HR industry in the future?
Equity and inclusion, diversity as it relates to many different generations in the workplace.


In your spare time, what do you do for fun? 
Write, read and home decorating.


What is one thing most of your colleagues don’t know about you? 
I was born in Tokyo, Japan
