With that in mind, SAHRA is pleased to be bringing two of top consultants and speakers as keynote presenters for the 2016 SAHRA Annual Conference. 


Keynote Speakers:

 Dr. Jessica Kriegel, Organization Development & Talent Management Professional, Oracle

 Dr. Jessica Kriegel works as an Organizational Development Consultant for Oracle Corporation,  where  she acts as an adviser and strategist in matters of organizational development, change  management and  talent development. She is also CEO of Ingage, Inc. an organization  development consulting firm. She is  the CEO and co-creator of “In the Sac” a mobile app for  Sacramento and is Chief Revenue Officer for Fulcrum Properties.

Jessica is also author of a book recently released by Wiley titled “Unfairly Labeled: How Your Workplace Can Benefit From Ditching Generational Stereotypes.” More information is available at her website:

In 2013 she completed her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and Management with a specialization in Human Resources Development from Drexel University. Jessica also has an MBA in International Business with Hult International Business School, completed in 2008.

She sits on the board of the Downtown Sacramento Partnership, The Sacramento Philharmonic and Opera, the Sacramento Chapter of Street Soccer, USA and the Nehemiah Emerging Leaders Alumni Association.

She was awarded the Association of Talent Development “One to Watch” Award in 2015 and Training Magazine’s “Emerging Training Leaders Award” One to Watch in 2014. She was Sacramento Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 in 2015 and Valedictorian of her Drexel University graduating class in 2013.

 Jennifer Brown Shaw, Partner, Shaw Valena LLP 

 Jennifer Brown Shaw is a founding partner of Shaw Valenza LLP. A well-respected expert in  employment law for more than 20 years, employers rely on Jennifer to provide practical advice  and  counsel on a broad range of employment law issues. She is a trusted advisor to HR  professionals and  leadership teams in a wide variety of organizations and industries.
 Jennifer has developed a national reputation for providing innovative and entertaining  workplace  training to management and non-supervisory employees. She knows that the most  important part of  training is the trainer. She uses case studies, audience participation, and storytelling to bring employment law to life. Through private, on-site sessions; open public sessions; and webinars, she trains approximately 10,000 people each year.
Jennifer also offers considerable expertise in conducting effective internal investigations. In addition to regularly training and advising clients on this important topic, she personally conducts investigations each year for private and public employers. She is often called in to assist with challenging or high-profile matters.
A frequent speaker on employment law topics, Jennifer has been a guest on CNN and local television and radio. She regularly authors articles for legal newspapers, and is consistently one of the top rated speakers at the Society of Human Resource Management’s national conference. Named by Northern California Super Lawyers magazine as one of the top attorneys in California since 2009, Jennifer has received numerous other awards, including the Sacramento Business Journal’s “Best of the Bar” designation and recognition as the number one rated speaker at the 2014 international conference for the Society for Human Resource Management. Jennifer s also a member of the Association of Workplace Investigators.
After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics with honors from the University of California, Santa Cruz, Jennifer graduated magna cum laude from the University of San Francisco School of Law, where she was the editor-in-chief of the Law Review.
Before co-founding Shaw Valenza LLP in 2006, Jennifer was a partner in one of the country’s largest employment and labor law firms.

Beth Wonson, Beth Wonson Consulting 

Funny, spontaneous, and relevant, Beth Wonson has experienced first hand the stressors that can turn passionate and purposeful professionals into isolated problematic employees. After decades as a mother, author, executive coach and business consultant, Beth shares her philosophy, backed with a dose of brain-based research, with humor, compassion, common sense and empathy.

A recovering high school assistant principal, CEO and COO, Beth has been sharing her insights with companies, teams and individuals across the United States for nearly 20 years. Topics vary including authenticity in leadership, successful navigation of tough dialogue, team development, letting go of blame and tools to avoid the loneliness and isolation that comes with being the leader.

Melissa Whitehead,  Weintraub Tobin

Melissa Whitehead is an associate in the firm’s Labor and Employment practice group. She represents clients in federal and state court in a wide variety of general liability and employment matters including wrongful termination, wage and hour, FEHA claims, and EEOC claims. Melissa also provides advice and counsel to employers on a variety of topics, including workplace policies and practices, as well as personnel decisions, and is available to assist in workplace investigations.  As a former Assistant Public Defender, Melissa has tried many jury trials and has extensive experience in negotiating cases to resolution. Melissa also creates and presents educational training materials to employers regarding employment law issues and updates. Melissa was listed as one of Northern California’s 2016 Rising Stars in Super Lawyers Magazine.


Dr. Jack Singer 

Dr. Jack Singer received his doctorate in the dual specialties of Industrial/Organizational and Clinical/Sports Psychology and has been awarded Diplomat status from the American Academy of Behavioral Medicine and the Psychology Division of the National Institute for Sports Professionals. He has taught in the Psychology Departments of seven universities, including an assistant professorship at the U.S. Air Force Academy.


Jack is practicing I/O, Clinical and Sports, psychologist, specializing in peak performance mastery, overcoming stress, life extension and prevention of chronic illness. Dr. Jack has spent more than twenty-five years speaking for and consulting with Fortune 500 companies, as well as HR associations from Miami to Malaysia, including SAHRA.

Ben Webster, Littler Mendelson 

Ben Webster is the Office Managing Shareholder of Littler Mendelson’s Sacramento office.  He has extensive experience handling trials, binding arbitrations, and mediations in a variety of complex labor and employment disputes.  Mr. Webster has defended countless lawsuits in state and federal court involving allegations such as wrongful termination, breach of contract, defamation, unfair competition, invasion of privacy, retaliation, harassment, and discrimination based on race, sex, age, religion, sexual orientation, disability, and immigration status.  He also provides daily advice, counsel, and training to employers large and small.   He has been recognized as a Northern California “Super Lawyer,” a “Top Lawyer” by Sacramento Magazine, and one of the “Best of the Bar” by the Sacramento Business Journal.   In 2015 he was appointed by Gov. Hector Alvarez, Workforce Interactive

Mr. Alvarez is the founder of Alvarez Associates and the Violence

Prevention Academy, a security risk management and training firm specializing in workplace violence prevention. He has personally assessed and responded to hundreds of potentially violent situations, developed numerous violence prevention programs and trained thousands of

employees and managers in workplace violence prevention. Serving as Security Director protecting one of our nation’s most sensitive critical infrastructures, to working as a city police officer, he has built over 25 years of experience in the fields of crisis intervention, violence

prevention, domestic terrorism and emergency management. Over 16 years ago, he developed and managed the country’s premier civilian security program focused specifically on preventing and responding to "active shooters". He understands the challenges organizations face when addressing the threat of violence because he has responded to them. Jennifer Chung, Senior Compliance Officer, Attorney, Woodruf Sawyer

As the company’s senior benefits compliance officer and lead ERISA counsel, Jen manages the benefits compliance team and drives the strategy and development of our benefits compliance policies, processes and training. She works closely with our account teams to help ensure that we have appropriate compliance resources to meet client needs when navigating through the complex benefits legislative terrain, such as ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and other legislation.


Jen’s background includes advising small and large companies on complicated qualified retirement plan and health and welfare plan issues. She has considerable experience with corresponding to and defending clients against government agency inquiries, such as Department of Labor audits. Prior to joining Woodruff-Sawyer, Jen worked at TriNet as lead benefits corporate counsel, implementing and developing compliant processes and standard operating procedures for plans with tens to hundreds of thousands of participants. She helped strategize, design and implement ACA compliance support for clients, such as tracking measurement and stability periods, evaluation of Applicable Large Employer status and reporting under Code Section 6056. Jen developed her benefits expertise as an ERISA attorney at Trucker Huss, a premier ERISA law firm in San Francisco, and further expanded her breadth of benefits experience at Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe as a managing attorney.
