Marijuana in the Workplace

In this session we will explore the effect of California’s Compassionate Use Act and California’s Adult Use of Marijuana Act, on your organization’s HR practices. Topics include understanding the scope of drug/alcohol testing, the duty to accommodate drug and alcohol use, and tips for hiring and managing employees who use marijuana, whether recreationally or for medical reasons.  

We address these key topics, including:

  • Understand the scope of California’s current marijuana laws.
  • Understand the employer’s duty to maintain a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Understand how to enforce your drug-free workplace policy without violating the law.

Megan Donaghey is an experienced human resources professional who conducts impartial investigations, provides employment law advice and counsel, and conducts training on workplace issues. As an investigator, Megan evaluates complex and sensitive workplace complaints of sexual and other workplace harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and wage-hour violations. Megan also provides advice to employers on a variety of employment law topics, including 1-9 compliance, managing leaves of absence and EEO issues. Clients appreciate Megan's business-minded approach to solving workplace challenges. Prior to joining Shaw Law Group, Megan worked for an employment law boutique and spent 15 years as an Employee Relations Director for an international Fortune 500 company. Megan attended law school at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, where she graduated with honors. She holds a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor's degree from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Megan is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resource Management and an Association of Workplace Investigators (AWi) certificate holder.  


This session will be approved for one SHRM professional development credit and one HRCI California credit

 


Registration Policy
All registrations are considered pending until payment is received by SAHRA. Confirmations will be sent upon receipt of payment. If payment has not been received in the office at least seventy-two (72) business hours in advance of the event, your registration will be considered canceled.

 

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations must be received in writing to the SAHRA office 72 business hours prior to the event in order to receive a refund.
