School to Career Team
(Formerly High School Team
)
Team
Leader:
Chris Mateo
Eighteen-year-old Ned plans on becoming
a web designer after high school. He will be one of the two-thirds
of all high school graduates who don’t go to a four-year college.
Ned and others like him need to have key skills, such as how to
write an effective resume or give a successful interview, so they
can enter the workforce shortly after high school. Yet no high
school course provides these skills.
SAHRA’s
School to Career Team helps close this gap by bringing HR
professionals into the classrooms through partnerships with local
school districts. If you’re someone who connects with teens, then
School to Career would love to have you as a volunteer to give high
schoolers one-hour presentations.
The only
other requirement in volunteering is that you must be a SAHRA member
in good standing. Please contact Member Service’s Team Leader,
Beth Mirsky, to join
SAHRA, if you’re already not a member. Then email School to
Career’s Team Leader,
Syeda Hamdani, to join our team as a volunteer.
When
teachers send requests for volunteers, we’ll let you know by email
and you can sign up for days and times that fit your schedule.
While we provide guidelines for presentation content, you can teach
the materials with your own methods.
Together,
we can make a difference in the lives of our youth—no cliché
intended.
