What is SAHRA?
Well, by clicking, you can find out all about us, our history, our objectives, our Code of Ethics and our Bylaws.

Association Benefits
  • Meetings: Monthly meetings are held in Sacramento (normally held the last Wednesday of each month). Each meeting includes a speaker on a subject directly related to a segment of human resources.

  • Development: Two annual workshops or seminar programs are designed to educate and build the skills of the human resource professional on issues, topics and techniques related to human resource management.

  • Newsletter: A monthly electronic newsletter announces SAHRA's programs and activities, as well as other current information important to human resource professionals.

  • Directory: A directory of all SAHRA members is provided on our website.

  • Networking: Support and interaction with other members provide a network of individuals with diverse knowledge and experience in all phases of the human resource profession. A great way to do so is to be volunteer on a committee.

Membership Requirements
Membership in SAHRA is individual, not corporate, and is not transferable. All members are required to strictly adhere to our Code of Ethics. SAHRA has four categories of membership as follows:

  • Professional Members: Individuals engaged in the profession of human resource management who either:

    1. Possess at least three (3) years experience in HR at the exempt level, or

    2. Are currently accredited by the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI, or

    3. Are faculty members holding assistant or full professorial rank in an accredited college or university and who possess at least three (3) years of experience at this level of teaching or equivalent thereof, or

    4. Are full-time consultants with at least three (3) years experience in Human Resources.

  • General Members: Individuals who are engaged in the profession of Human Resources at the exempt level but do not meet the requirements of Professional Member, and nonexempt individuals with two or more years of HR experience. Members of this class have the right to vote and to hold office in the Association, except for the offices of President or President-elect.

  • Associate Members: Individuals in nonexempt HR positions, as well as those who do not meet any of the foregoing categories but demonstrate a bona fide interest in HR management and the purposes of the association. Associate members may vote and hold office on the board, but are limited to twenty percent (20%) of the total professional and general membership. The Vice President of Membership shall strive through applicant screening to selectively maintain a balance of representation from the above groups as turnover permits. Associate members are required to be a member in good standing in the Society for Human Resource Management (the national HR organization).

  • Student Members: Individuals maintaining at least 12 semester or 9 quarter hours, who are actively enrolled in Human Resource programs at the college or university level. Student members may not vote or hold office on the board. Students pay dues each calendar year. Proof of meeting Student Member requirements must be provided with a returned application.

Dues
SAHRA dues are payable twelve (12) months from the date of joining. Payment entitles the member to all the services and privileges of membership. New member dues are $150.00 (which includes a one-time processing fee and name badge). Subsequent dues are $135.00 per year.

Membership in our national association, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), is strongly encouraged, but not required for Professional or General members. Membership in SHRM is required for Associate members. Dues for the Sacramento Area Human Resource Association (SAHRA) are separate from those collected by SHRM. Membership in the SAHRA does not automatically provide membership in the national association (SHRM).  Click here to go directly to the SHRM membership application.
