Position: Chapter President
Responsible To: Board of Directors, Chapter Members
Direct Reports: All Board Members, Executive Director

 

FUNCTION
Chief Executive Office of the association. Provide leadership to the chapter consistent with state, area and national Society policy, strategies and objectives. Responsible for operating the chapter effectively so that the needs of the members are met. Perform other duties as required by the local chapter by-laws

 RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide overall administrative and operational leadership for the chapter’s business activities

  • Conduct the business of the chapter in accordance with chapter by-laws and serve as Chairperson of the chapter’s Board of Directors

  • Chair all meetings of chapter officers, directors and committee chairs

  • Preside at monthly general membership meetings

  • Ensure smooth, orderly and professional achievement of chapter objectives to fulfill its mission.

  • Monitor the use, accounting and handling of the chapter funds

  • Maintain a current, active SHRM membership

  • Attend State Council meetings as elected representative of the chapter; participate in Council matters as appropriate

  • Represent the chapter at SHRM national headquarters and meetings of other professional associations

  • Represent the chapter at the annual SHRM conference

  • Communicate area, state and/or national goals, policies and programs to chapter membership

  • Write monthly newsletter, “President’s message” article

  • Prepare, monitor and maintain budgets

  • Compile and develop reports as needed

  • Contract with Professional Administrator

  • Orient new volunteers

  • Plan and facilitate annual retreat

REQUIREMENTS
Must be a SAHRA member in good standing elected by chapter membership. Must maintain professional or general membership status. Must be a member of SHRM. Certification as SPHR or PHR. Must have served SAHRA for a minimum of one year in the capacity of a Vice President or Director; having served as president-elect is preferred. Ability to effectively represent organization to the community at large, to effectively facilitate meetings. Have strong leadership skills and the ability to attract, coach, develop, mentor and influence volunteers. Have the ability to set strategic direction.  Should possess strong communication skills (oral, written and presentation) as may act as media contact/spokesperson. Ability to meet required deadlines for reports and budgets. Ability to suggest creative solutions within budgetary constraints. Must attend a minimum of 80% of Board Meetings and 50% of SAHRA events

TIME COMMITMENT, in addition to Board and Monthly meetings:
Approximately 10 hours a month
