FUNCTION Monitor Legal/Legislative
developments affecting the HR profession and facilitate
communication of such via newsletters, SAHRA Web site, Chapter
meetings, conferences and other appropriate avenues. Develop and
coordinate grassroots lobbying efforts of the chapter. This
position is a voting member of the board as Director-At-Large.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor local,
state and national legislative/legal developments affecting the
profession in a significant way
Prepare
newsletter reports on developing issues, status of legislative
bills, significance of notable legal decisions and proposed action
by members
Prepare and
assures the timely release of legislative alerts and action needed
on important pending legislation
Provide
legislative affairs reports to members; present a legislative
report or update to the Chapter President and fellow chapter
members, at least annually
Develop and
supports workshops and seminars which address legislation issues
Serve as a
program speaker and advocate at chapter activities and other
professional meetings
Maintain contact
with state legislators and Members of Congress
Network with
appropriate representatives of other California Chapters
concerning legislative issues
Work in close
cooperation with the State Legislative Affairs Director, Area
Legislative Affairs Director and the national headquarters’ staff
Work closely with
the Director, State Council in the coordination on inter-chapter
activities pertaining to the annual Legislative Conference,
including committee work within the chapter as conference host
(Sacramento Storm)
Inform chapter members about HRVoice programs and how
to use the letter-writing feature on the SHRM web site.
Promote within the chapter increased knowledge and
activities for influencing legislation.
Coordinate “Ask
Legal” Q/A’s with Executive Director, as well as provide updated
web content as needed
Monitor budgets
Attend Board
meetings and joint PD planning meetings
Recruit, train
and retain volunteers; plan for a successor
Participate in the development and implementation of
short-term and long-term strategy planning for the chapter
REQUIREMENTS Must be a SAHRA member in good
standing. SHRM membership preferred. Ability to effectively
facilitate meetings. Strong leadership abilities with the ability to
develop strategic direction, goals and objectives and follow-through
on goals and objectives. Effective communication skills (oral,
written and presentation). Ability to attract, coach, develop and
mentor volunteers. Ability to stay within budget. Ability to develop
creative solutions utilizing a limited amount of resources.
Attend 50% of SAHRA events and 80% of Board Meetings.
TIME COMMITMENT, in
addition to Board and Monthly meetings:
Approximately 5 hours a month
